Aubrey's First School Project

A few days before Kindergarten started, Aubrey went in for an assessment. It was a unique experience for her. I could tell she was a little nervous because many things she knows she didn't answer for the teacher. But, she still did well on the assessment. She did enjoy it though because afterward she asked if she got to come and do that again. At the assessment, we were given a girl cut out and told to decorate it together to look like Aubrey.

Aubrey was very excited for this project and insisted that we make the outfit be the exact one that she wore to the assessment.

Here Aubrey is working on her doll. She went through all the markers looking for her skin color, and this is the closest she could find.

Then we went through the fabric scraps I had so she could choose which fabric would look the closest to her desired outfit. Then she painted on a rainbow and clouds with glue and glitter.

She asked if we could make bows and glue on gems as well.

Here she is with her completed Aubrey doll. I think it turned out very cute and she was thrilled. Aubrey had to put on her matching outfit to take a picture with her doll. She was excited to show me it in the hallway at school the next week!

Of course I had to find something for Brooke to do while we worked on it or I would have had a very unhappy little lady. Luckily we had some fairy cut outs that were very similar to the doll cut out. I even printed off her face for one of the fairies.

Brooke had to put on her tutu to pose with her dolls. Here's the tutu one.

Here's the Brookie one.

We sure love art projects in our house!!

More Soccer Fun

Aubrey sure has been enjoying soccer this season.

Here's the collage I made for her wall.

Here's a few more soccer photos.

 Such cute little soccer buddies!

Brooke is a lucky little girl because Aubrey willingly shares her treat with her after every game. This game she got a pack with three cookies. She said after she saw that, "Oh it's just perfect! There's 3 cookies, one for Isla - one for Brooke - and one for me!" I just love how great she is at sharing!

Splash Pad

Before the Summer ended we had to take a trip to our favorite splash pad. It's unfortunate that it takes a while for us to get there. I hope the one they are building closer to home has some water toys like this pad and not just squirting water.

 Here's Aubrey shooting the gun.

Isla came for a bit too. Unfortunately she was pretty tired after we finally got there.

I love that my cuties like to get splashed and sprayed!

What a happy girl!!

Splash Splash Splash!

Getting wet is sooo much fun!

I found a pink monster by our bags!

Then we headed over to the park. This spring Aubrey finally figured out how to really get going by pumping on the swings! It's so nice that one of mine can swing on her own!

Aubrey has become such a climber this Summer and has finally conquered her extreme fear of heights! Yay! She's still no dare devil - but she definitely puts herself out there more!

This little lady often has her hands on her hips as she tells me something of great importance to her!

My little monkey climbing some more!

Twirly swings!

Twisty chair!

It's so much fun to spend the day outside with friends!!

Money

A couple days after the bake sale, I had a fun little lesson on money with my girls. First we went to the bank and cashed their bake sale checks. We went inside and I explained to them a little about banks and how they work.

Then when we returned home we divided their money between tithing, ice skating tuition, piggy bank & savings account. The cool thing is that neither one of them has asked if they could buy a toy with their money. They are happy with all of the above uses of their money!

That night they happily put their change in their piggy banks.

They were excited to give their tithing to the Bishop that Sunday. Aubrey has asked several times since then if she has earned any more money that she can pay tithing on. We may have to have another little fundraiser - I'm thinking maybe I could crochet some hair clips and have my girls deliver the orders - any interest in that?

Then the next week they got to take their Ice Skating tuition to the Skating rink and sign up for their classes. It was really fun that they could go through the whole process of working for their money, getting paid and learning what to do with it. I love hands on learning and am glad that my girls talked me into the Bake Stand!

Clean Eating Bake Sale

Sometime in the Spring I read a Pinkalicious book with my girls that was all about a Pink Lemonade stand. So of course my girls very much wanted to have one themselves. Sitting in the sun for a couple of hours with probably very few customers, did not seem very appealing to me. I hoped they would forget about it. Well, all Summer they saw cute neighborhood kids with stands of all varieties. One was selling cookies and my girls thought that was a brilliant idea. So all Summer they asked when they could have their stand and sell cookies & pink lemonade. I was still hesitant to agree, but remembered that I've had a lot of people curious about the clean food that I eat. So I thought it might be nice to let people have a taste of it, while allowing my girls to have their little stand. So, I finally agreed to a Bake Stand.

My little ladies were so unbelievably excited! The night before they had fun playing "Bake Sale" and practicing what they would say to their customers. Aubrey prayed a couple times that day that people would come to our bake sale and that the food would taste good. What a cutie she is!

Because I knew I wouldn't be able to video tape them in action at the Bake Sale, I videoed their pretend version. They are playing both the part of the customer (who are their dolls) and themselves - the vendors.

When we went to set up that afternoon Aubrey and Brooke were just so excited. They ran, jumped and danced around the grassy area singing, "We're having a bake sale, we're having a bake sale." They made sure to sing it for anyone who walked by.

We had our first customer 15 min. before we were supposed to be open and before everything was set up. Then a couple minutes to opening time we actually had a line. This, I was not expecting! (We have the best, most supportive neighborhood!)

The girls were so excited to have customers! They loved getting out the plates and asking what they wanted and filling up their plates with goodies.

Aubrey did not tire out the entire time. She loved every second of it and could not get enough of it! Brooke did very good too, but needed to take a few snack breaks - luckily we had plenty of snacks for her!!

Right before school let out we had a break in the customers, so I was able to take a couple of pictures of the stand. (Something I planned on doing at the beginning when it was all stocked with food, but didn't get a chance too. But that's ok, I'd prefer the customers to the photos!!)

Me and my cute little ladies. These girls get me to do all sorts of things I never thought I would!
After we took the photos, school let out and Aubrey ran and grabbed the sign to wave it in front of the cars driving by. She's such a doll. We had a steady amount of school kid visitors until closing time. And then we even had a few late comers as we were packing up the van!

Here's the only pic I got of the baked goods we sold.

Isla decided to have an extra long nap and so they didn't quite make it to the sale. So we set up the stand in the entry way so they could make a sale to Esther and Isla. (I love Brooke's head peeking out in the bottom right corner!!)

Mmmm yummy cupcake!

Then I let those hot and tired little ladies take a dip in the pool!

All and all it turned out to be a very positive experience. I calculated that we sold 234 baked goods. The girls had decided that their goal was to make enough money to sign up for Ice Skating classes and that they wanted some change for their piggy banks as well. We exceeded their goal and they were very excited about that! I am grateful for such awesome friends and neighbors who came to support me and my little cuties in their much anticipated Bake Stand!
