First Snow of the Season

We had fantastic Fall weather this year and didn't get our first snowfall until the second week in November (unfortunately it's gone downhill from there!)

The girls were so excited about the snow. For the first time ever, they actually played in it for a few hours. Usually they get cold after a short time - about the same amount of time it took to bundle them up!

Brookie had lots of fun making snow angels!

Aubrey wanted to make tracks in the snow.

What a cutie all bundled up!
I'm glad we got one excited snow day. Since then it's just been groans from all of us with this terribly cold, snowy & bad air quality winter we've had. I don't even feel good about bundling them up to send them outside because of the air quality. We are very much looking forward to the Spring in our house!! We're glad the groundhog said we'll have an early Spring!

Ice Skating Certificates

My girls really enjoyed their first ice skating class. Especially Aubrey - she's really taken to Ice Skating. On their last day of class they got their certificates and Aubrey was able to pass off all 3 snowplow classes in just one session!

Brooke passed off her 1st Snowplow class and was excited to get a patch and certificate.

They are now in their second set of Ice Skating classes. Brooke is taking Snowplow 2 and has really taken off. Now during the free skate portion she goes around and around the rink without any problem.

Aubrey got to jump ahead to Basic Level 1 a little early. They are supposed to wait until they are 6, but the teacher let her try it the first week and said she had great technique and so she'd let her stay in the Basic class.

I have lots of fun watching my little ice skaters. I think seeing those little ladies skate around the ice is so cute - especially since up until recently I was afraid to ice skate myself!

Preschool Letter K - Kangaroos, Kittens & Kites

On my week in November, we worked on letter K for Preschool.

First we read a book about Kangaroos.

Then we turned a cut out "K" into a Kangaroo.

My girls finished Kangaroos.

Then we watched a little video of "The Three Little Kittens".

We then did a Kitten Mitten match game. (They had to match the correct colored mittens.)

Then they made their own interactive kitten so they could re-tell the poem.

The hands are on brads and the mittens and pie are fastened with Velcro so they can put them on and take them off as they recite the poem.

Then they made paper bag kites,

and went out to fly the kites.

They decided to eat their snacks outside. We had Kiwi and French fries with Ketchup.

We had a fun time learning about the letter K.

Brooke Reads her First Book

Brooke has a strong desire to do EVERYTHING her sister does! We've been working a lot on reading with Aubrey this year, so Brooke insisted on a regular basis that I teach her to read too. I didn't think she was quite ready, but finally I gave in to her insisting and got out the first reader. (I have the books that I learned to read with - Wise Learn to Read series)

On November 4th, Brooke zipped through the first book like a little pro. Then she went on to zip through the second one as well a few days later. We haven't spent a lot of time lately with her reading, I'm sorry to say, but I feel like reading will be a pretty natural skill for her. Yipee it's nice when something comes easily for a child!

Here is my excited Brookie - happy she can read!

You can see Aubrey being excited in the background too. Aubrey always gets very excited for Brooke when she does new things!

The thing Brooke has been working on lately is writing. She traces letters like a pro these days and can write a few on her own. She also is an excellent counter. Aubrey taught her to count to 100 by 10's and she can go pretty far by ones as well. (I think about 50 before we have to help her by going through the 10's with her). It's nice the second time around because they pick up so much by just observing you working with the first one!

Fancy Hair Day

Just for fun one Sunday I decided to give my girls fancy updo's. The girls loved them and called them Cinderella hair.

Here's Aubrey's hair:

Aubrey loves being a goof ball and posing for the camera. If I tell her just to stand and smile, I don't get very good shots, but if I let her act silly we get some pretty fun pictures!

Here's Brookie's hair. (I love that it still has a hint of pink from the Pinkalicious hair!)

My two pretty little ladies!
